Update for SEMSA

SEMSA Update May 7, 2021

Hello all! We, the SEMSA board, are scrambling to keep up with the twists of turns that COVID-19 keeps bringing our way. We thank you all for your consistent patience and understanding as we do our best to navigate the changing rules for our game, and we appreciate your ongoing motivation to get your kids out on the fields!

We receive many emails asking us for updates. We are doing our best to reply all emails in a timely fashion, however, we would like to ask that any questions you may have first be directed to our website and/or the emails we send out (like this one!). Often times we do not have the answers, and like you, we are left wondering and waiting for clarification. In this email, we hope to answer the vast majority of questions.

We would like to recognize that last year, SEMSA took a financial hit due to cancelling the season, while refunding all registrations, and still paying out all dues that were owed and owing. We want to thank everyone who is registered to play this season and value your dedication during these uncertain times. In light of the current COVID-19 restrictions, we know the softball season will, at the very least, be delayed until at least May 31, 2021. Our primary goal is to get the kids out on the fields, practicing and playing softball as soon as we can, in accordance with all COVID-19 safety rules. With that said, there are a couple of scenarios we are considering with the current information at hand:

Scenario 1: Teams practice during the month of June. A discount on registration will be applied.

Scenario 2: The softball season pushes into July with games.

Scenario 3: The season is cancelled.

There are many factors that go into making each decision, and while we are waiting on the ‘okay’ to play, we will continue to work on scenario 1 and 2 for as long as we can.

We need your help!

Although the season was cancelled last year, the SEMSA board made up of volunteers worked all the same. And that same board, albeit much smaller, are continuing to work behind the scenes. We have become a small number of volunteers doing a large amount of work and we would love to see some new faces join us ASAP to help make this season (and next!) successful!

There are many areas that we need volunteers in, including media, advertising, members at large (assist others on the board with projects), equipment, president, etc. SEMSA is a volunteer based organization and it will not run without your help! Please reach out to us so we can continue providing kids with this awesome sport!
